  • Work/Life Survey Solicits Opinions

A web-based survey of how employees see various issues that affect their lives at work and at home is underway at UCSB. Late last month, around 3,000 people with e-mail addresses in the current Campus Directory were asked to participate, according to Wendy Nishikawa, work/life coordinator.
The survey was designed "to better assess the baseline needs of our UCSB community across a variety of work/life issues," said the invitation from Cynthia Cronk, director of Human Resources, and Pat Sheppard, director of Academic Personnel.
At press time, more than 900 had accepted that invitation, including some from Facilities Management who must use department computer stations since most employees have no individual computers. "I'm impressed by the willingness and cooperation of these supervisors to help ensure that everyone's voice is heard," said Nishikawa, who explained that the survey was done on-line for budgetary reasons. The new Social Science Survey Center is administering the work/life survey.
However, "everyone who would like to participate can do so," said Nishikawa. Those who want to register their opinions can contact her at x7323, or Paolo Gardinali at x5213, to get an individualized access code.
"I thank those who have responded to the survey already and encourage those who haven't to do so as soon as possible," she said. The end of June is the tentative deadline for completion of responses.
