ISLA VISTA RECYCLES THROUGH G.I.V.E.

At least 60 couches and 30-odd desks were among the furniture students leaving Isla Vista recycled this year through the annual Great I.V. Extravaganza (G.I.V.E.) on June 24. A benefit for local nonprofit groups, the G.I.V.E. Project volunteers, organized by the I.V./UCSB Liaison Office, collected and sold clothing, kitchenware, books, home furnishings, and even nonperishable food. UCSB undergraduate Katie Robinette, far right, helps a customer at a sales table while another volunteer, Kris Miller-Fisher, at left with arms up, encourages shoppers. The 6-hour sale raised more than $11,100—a new record—and was divided among 10 groups.
